A crypto startup tied to former US President Donald TRUMP received a $500 million investment from UAE-backed Aryam Investment 1, acquiring a 49% stake in World Liberty Financial. The deal, finalized in January 2025, included an upfront payment of $187 million to entities connected to Trump and other founders.

The transaction drew immediate scrutiny due to ties between the Abu Dhabi investor and Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, a key figure in UAE tech and security circles. Critics highlight concerns over foreign influence, particularly given Trump’s political profile and the timing NEAR a US transition period.

Board appointments linked to the Abu Dhabi investor group further cemented governance influence. The opaque nature of the deal—and delayed disclosures of related token transactions—has sparked calls for transparency from lawmakers and watchdog groups.
